I did a Medline and Google Scholar search for "Scientology depression" and got zero responses. I did a "SSRI depression" search in each and got vast number of studies.
So to claim Scientology is an effective treatment for depression has no research or scientific basis. There may be antecdotal evidence -- but so far only from "church members". Neither objective, or qualified. If a psychiatrist provides antecdotal observations on the effectiveness of Scientology in treating depression, then at least its worth discussing. (Or even a lowly psychologist. :) ) Until then, its just dogmatic spouting IMO. Much less being a cost-effective treatment. I mean even if S. resolved depression long term, is it cost effective at $30,000 or $100,000?
