---Sal quite possibly I am not clearly stating my position.I am NOT saying that depressed patients with hope fare better on medication.I AGREE with you that depression is state that is typically without hope (how true this is would depend on the severity of the depression ie the more depressed the more hopeless).What I'm saying is that in addition to their pharmocological effects medications can give the person hope that their condition will improve.In this way the the persons own capacity to heal will work in combination with the the medications direct biological effects eg preventing the re-uptake of serotonin.PS I not sure how personally attacking me is adding to this discussion althought you might want to ask yourself what kind of need your trying to meet by making these comments.Kevin
