The employee's share of the Medicare portion is 1.45% of wages.
People like Barry are regressive; they have a lower lifetime average wage but they receive a larger benefit, as a percentage of their lifetime average wage income, than do individuals with higher lifetime average wages. They are a drain on the society, not because they are liars, but because they don't pay in their fair share, but they get to go to the government nursing home anyway. If they're self-employed they are supposed to be paying double FICA taxes.
