I don't know that anyone (well maybe some are) *condemning* TM but rather critiquing, comparing and contrasting it. It's always nice to see anything in its larger context. The big picture. No fear. That's very sane--esp. if growth and integration is of interest to one or few or many. However, at the same time, if there are certain aspects that are not helpful to some people it's great to share why that is, can it be corrected somehow? And there is the historical aspect. If you claim to come from a tradition--say the Shankaracharya tradition--isn't it cool to know more about that trad. and it's practices? Are they different from what you were taught? Why? It's all interesting and all helpful for a practitioner--esp. those who want to integrate what they already learned by gaining meaningful perspective.
