Inspired. Kathy Bates has played some of the most
chilling characters in cinema. The standout, of
course, has to be the cock-a-doodie madwoman in
Stephen King's "Misery." I always wanted to do a
rewrite of that plot (the obsessed fan who manages
to get the author of her favorite romance books
trapped in her house as her prisoner) in an ashram.

Imagine what would happen if a similarly-deranged
spiritual seeker had managed to get a spiritual
teacher in their power, and wouldn't rest until he
"lived up to" all of her fantasies about him, in-
cluding her being the most important thing in his
life. Then I'd have the spiritual teacher "wise up"
and cut her off from his shakti and his attention.
Murder, madness, and mayhem would follow.

Sadly, I have seen this happen (without the murder
part). It's not a pretty sight. That's what would
make it such a good story. There is little on earth
more dangerous than someone totally obsessed with
another human being. Their whole *life* revolves
around the other person; they can spend decades
stalking the other person, and trying to suck his
attention (and, occasionally, other parts). And then,
when that person dumps them (for their own good)
and withdraws his attention, all hell breaks loose.

I'd make the story about a woman because I've seen
this phenomenon more in women seekers than men
seekers, but in the TM movement you could just as
easily imagine some closeted toady like Bevan doing
the same thing. Hell...if she put on a few pounds,
Kathy Bates could even play Bevan. :-)
