Close. I suspected it might have to do with the bindu-chandra, i.e. the 
sound "m" or like a swallowed "ng" at the end of many bija mantras. 
What it appears is being translated is makaara-bindu. Thus "makara 
point" is the "m"- sound bindu. What it's referring to is the 
termination of sound and the root of mind (manas). As you know, many 
bija-mantras if you look at their written form have a crescent shape 
and a dot. This is the chandra (or nada) and the bindu. The bindu on 
the pranava, AUM, is what it is referring to. Numerous tantras will use 
techniques which work with tracing this sound back to it's source 'the 
"m" - sound bindu and then going "beyond mind".

There are numerous phrases that are plays on words which point to this 
dissolution.
