I am in total amazement, John, that you invoke the history of Social Security 
as some sort of GOOD thing.

When it first started, FDR gave his solemn promise that contributions would 
never exceed 1% of earnings (or 1 1/2 %, can't remember exactly what the quote 
was).

Well, 75 years later and we pay in employee and employer contributions more 
than 10 times that amount (about 12.3%) on about the first $103,000 of adjusted 
gross income.

Once government got their sticky hands on it, it became the behemoth it is 
today (SS is the largest single area of spending by the federal government).

There are similar horror stories with Medicare and how it was originally 
introduced to the gullible American voters...

So, why are you spouting this stuff as some sort of POSITIVE thing?????
