MMY says that all eight limbs (Angas) "must be practiced simultaneously" MMY
Gita appendix/Yoga Samadhi is the goal, and once the goal of Samadhi is
reached all the 'tools' used to achieve that goal are no longer necessary.

Virya or Celibacy is one of the *soldiers* mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita, his
name is Uttamaujas, (CH1vs6) or vital celibacy from uttama/chief, principle and
ojas/bodily strength.

Patanjali devised eight *means* to YOGA, "each limb (anga) is designed to bring
about the state of Yoga (Union) "in the sphere of life to which it relates".
MMY/Gita

(In spite of his later lectures where he, IMO, pandered to modernity and
suggested only TM meditation was necessary.)
