Here is a good Nat'l Geo site with an interactive / timeline atlas
depicting flows of human migration from Africa 60,000 years ago (from
where all current humans derive). If you go through all the interative
points, it gives a great foundation for understanding DNA markers and
current knowledge.

It also gives a good background and context for studying immigration
into india. All areas of the world are populated by central-coastal
african immigrants -- near ethiopia (hey maybe the rastafarians were
on to something :) )

btw, the siberian-alaskan land bridge, 20,000 years ago, known as
Beringia, was 640 miles wide. it facilitated the migration of what is
now believed as primarily (then) chinese and siberians to migrate
across the bridge, populating the americas all the way to the tip of
south america. (dwarfing the distance from alaska to the NA sw --
migrations of that distance are a non-issue -- they occurred in
substantial numbers)

What is missing is any DNA validation of the other more recent
migration theories -- over the past 1000-5000 years from china, tibet,
 celtic, etc.
