According to a story I was told years ago, MMY was doing the flowers from the disciples thing when an old friend walked up. MMY and he/she were lost in coversation for a while until one of MMY's handlers reminded him that he had a line of people waiting. MMY's response was: "They should know that personal love is concentrated universal love." I think that many people, no matter how enlightened, will tend to have a "soft spot" in their hearts for certain people that interactions with the masses won't be able to fill.
