Actually Howard was doing the girl a lot more good than the folks who ignore the, er, "elephant in the room", and that is the simple fact that Gobourey's weight is going to kill her if she doesn't get some help.
Obesity in this country remains the biggest single cause of health problems. We need more attention called to it, not less. Sure, he picked on her in his usual manner, but the point is, she is so obese she is unhealthy. For crying out loud, she couldn't even sit in the normal chairs provided at the Oscars....she had to sit in a special seat at the end of the aisle.
