I think it goes back to overshadoing of Self. Distinction-making that overshadows Self is not supported in enlightenment. Survival issues, or whatever, are not directly germane. Perhaps there's a Darwinian component, but as some have pointed out, the call for celibacy on the part of their students by many who are deemed enlightened is quite possibly self-defeating from an evolutionary perspective. If the people who become enlightened don't pass on their genes, then...
