I think that the author

----Yeah, like when I was chef and my cooks brought me weed which I would smoke under the hood. Then have a few beers while I prepared my new menu, cooking things just as I envisioned. I would crank the radio and it actually was playing good tunes that year (not like now). Dance around a bit. Cook for some people, then the owner would give me methadone and morphine pills and I would chug them down with a beer then close up smoking another joint after the owners left (they werent smoking pot at that point), flirt with the waitresses while drinking some open bottles of wine, then to the local French Quarter bar to see my mates who I had known for ten years where they were all in the midst of scoring coke, which then they would give me, without my having to ask.  The dharma rocked back then.
