You are right Joe, you did not.
I have never followed him though I visited the Satsang a few times in
the mid nineties with my ex who was into him before she moved to on
Ammachi, later I stopped visiting since I was content to just visit
Ammachi when she visited. I completely rely on my own experience and my
opinion of him was he was enlightened since I could feel the shakti. I
have never bought into the concept of a Guru, so I am really neutral to
people worshiping him as an avatar, God or whatever. People do that at
Ammachi as well, to each his own, to me it is very limiting and not in
tune with my samskaras.
For me the concept of a God is more in tune with scriptures like
Tripura Rahasya. For me there is the essential and then there is
accidental, I don't pay too much attention to the accidental. The
awakened ones reminded that me that such a state as the "essence" exists
and that it can be reached. I did lot of reading when the controversies
came around and I didn't find much substance to it. It looked like
another creation of the Christian missionary/American money. I really
love Osho and he had lot of uncharitable things to say about Sai Baba,
but like I said I don't pay too much attention to the accidental.
