Probably from the strong group beliefs that came with SCI and the importance of taking this course, along with "advanced" lectures. Life within TM circles revolved around these dogmas and the importance of keeping them "pure". In order to keep them pure, you had to memorize blips of info, often by rehashing them in your mind and in conversations with other insiders, over and over and over again.
