As I suggested in my over-coffee rap this morning, I don't think they
can tell the difference between their subjective perceptions/beliefs and
facts. If they've spent a lot of time in a spiritual environment in
which subjectivity is held to be *synonymous* with fact or truth (like
the TM movement and many others), you can hardly blame them. In many
cases the entire dogma-set of these organizations is based on "He said,"
as if He (whoever it was who said it -- live or dead, in person or in
some "scripture") saying it was all that it took to turn it from
subjective experience/belief INTO fact.

Color me not convinced that this is correct. I try to be careful to
present anything I write on this forum or any other as what it is,
opinion. I sometimes try to suggest to others, who claim that what they
believe or what they have subjectively experienced is Truth, that while
they might believe this, I am under no obligation to do so. To me
whatever they say (and whatever any "authority" they might cite to back
them up says) is on the exact same level as what I say -- opinion.

Some don't take kindly to this. Some get kinda bent or offended or angry
and act out about it, as if pitching a hissy fit will make what they
said more fact and less opinion. I'm not convinced it works that way.
