It's the natural result of the failure to maintain samadhi. Rinse-repeat-rinse-repeat… If you establish the grooves in the mind to NOT maintain samadhi, you'll get nowhere. That's Patanjali's point. In introspective samadhis you want to extend the amount of time you can be in samadhi until it becomes permanent, you do not want to create the habitual circumstance that keeps you popping back out!
