I think it was mostly the woman who was
Rajneesh's second-in-command, Ma Sheela.
She was totally bonkers, ultimately went
to prison for the Salmonella stunt, which
sickened a whole bunch of people, and some
other outrageous stuff, death threats and
things.  It's not clear Rajneesh was aware
of everything she and her henchpersons were
doing.

I saw her interviewed on Nightline when all
this was going down.  She was pretty clearly
a raving loony, a real paranoid Dragon Lady
with delusions of grandeur.

There are a couple of good books about the
whole Rajneeshpuram/Antelope era.  The commune
seems to have worked out brilliantly for the
first year or so, then went bad quite rapidly.
