I, too, see Maharishi's celebrations and sillinesses a 
symbological performances to elicit spiritual awakening. 
It's like the puja. I don't really think I'm offering food 
and drink to Guru Dev, but the symbolic performance 
seems to elicit a response in me.

Think what a kick it must have been to spend one's 
entire life building a cathedral, as was the case for so 
many masons in Medieval Europe. Surely, despite the 
difficulties, those men felt a strong sense of spiritual 
purpose along with the satisfactions that arise from 
tangible achievements.
