Here's another HUGE promise never to materialize.

In early 1982, when, in Bevan's words, "...the threat of nuclear
disaster was hanging over the United States by a slim thread..." and
he urged those of us that hadn't moved to FF after Amherst, to quickly
move. Maharishi's inducement to us was, "Do this for me and I promise
you wealth and wisdom squared." That phrase was always in the fore of
my mind and I felt, again, "I am doing this for Maharishi, as I have
done all these other things, and he promises me wealth and wisdon
squared."

I know my experience, over the next six miserable years, was that
every new year in FF brought the opposite. There were dozens of us,
intelligent, educated people, had done everything Maharishi asked of
us for over 20 years at that point, and each day, each season,
especially each brutal winter, we got poorer, had to take the lowest
jobs if you could even get them, and many, if not most of that group
had to eventually leave due to Poorness and Povert squared.

That was one of the biggest promises, in my mind, made and never
kept.
