DOSHA-In Hindu ethics, the five moral defects: lust (kama), anger (krodha),
greed (lobha), fear (bhaya) and sleep (svapna). (Shambala Ency-Feuerstein)

Are these the 'sleeping elephants' MMY talks about? Do these conscious and
sub-conscious attachments tie the soul down to the body and disable it from
transcending to Spirit?

Awakening the serpent fire Kundalini, (essential to conscious transcendence)
can only occur when a certain amount of self-control has been gained over these
moral defects, hence the importance of the ethical life in Yoga.
