On my TTC in Fiuggi I had my first experience in this lifetime with enlightenment. I sat to meditate one afternoon and had the clearest experience of transcendence I'd ever had. Hours later, I got up and started to get dressed for dinner and realized that the transcendence had not gone away; it was still present. It stayed present for a few weeks, whatever else I was doing. I was keeping a Journal while on that course. I still have it. The day before I had this exper- ience, I was writing in it about how far away enlightenment seemed and how I'd never get "there." The next day I was writing about how it now appeared as if it had never NOT been "there." My first realization was that it had ALWAYS been "there," and I just hadn't noticed. Very "before enlightenment, chop wood and carry water; after enlightenment, chop wood and carry water." But my handwriting "before" and "after" couldn't have been more different, coming from the same person. Big difference. Go figure. ------------------------ Yahoo!
