The most effective way for U.S. citizens to improve
the situation in Africa is to focus on getting rid
of the current administration and installing one
that can provide some actual leadership. (That's
also the most effective way for us to get measures
implemented that can mitigate the effects of future
natural disasters here, and for that matter to do
something to prevent them, i.e., by stopping global
warming--if it can be stopped at this point.)

The Katrina disaster is something we can provide very
concrete help with *now*. And it isn't just a matter
of the death toll, of course, but of the ongoing
suffering of several million people.
