Plus I think in some cultures it's considered rude or aggressive to look directly into someone's eyes. People raised in such cultures might not rely on expressions in the eyes for social and or emotional cues.

If you have to look more than half of the words up - they all describe emotional states - you will not be so natural in attributing them.
