As much as I'd like to say Yes, I think it depends
on whether you know and love the original versions.
H2G2 (as they stupidly call it here in France) was
first a radio series in Britain, then a TV series,
then a set of well-received novels, then a computer
game, etc. The script for this film was actually
written by Douglas Adams before he died, but IMO
was worked over subsequently by the other credited
writer.

It's not a strong film on its own. But if you know
and love Douglas Adams and the crazy, mixed-up
universe he gave us a guide to, it's worth the
money. I thought Arthur Dent was pretty well cast,
and the choice of Alan Rickman for the voice of
Marvin the Paranoid Robot was brilliant. Mos Def
was a curious choice for Ford Prefect, and I'm sorry,
but I think that Sam Rockwell was a terrible choice
for Zaphod Beebelbrox. Zooey Deschanel was an Ok
choice for Trillian, but I personally would have
cast someone hotter. She was hotter in the books.

Anyway, it's a mixed bag, but it does have a few of
those wonderful Douglas Adams moments of cosmic
humor, as only an Englishman could write it.
