Many years ago I did some research into the whole Vedic
tradition/Hinduism thing. Found at my university library a volume
of world religions which stated that Hinduism evolved from the
earlier Vedic traditions, combining elements of Brahmanism.
Hinduism adopted, modified, borrowed, stole, whatever-you-will
from the Vedic tradition. Thus there is confusion over whether TM
mantras are "Hindu" in origin. You could argue that they are, but
historically, the Hindus "borrowed" these from the older Vedic
tradition.
