The 'Bodhisattva' is mentioned in the Pali scriptures. The Bodhisattva vow is the vow taken by Mahayana Buddhists to attain complete enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings. Both the Theravada and the Mahayana unanimously accept the Bodhisattva ideal as the highest.

The Buddha that you imagine would be offended by either of those comments never existed. That's what Buddhism is saying!
