Fort Knox was last fully audited in 1953. The US government claims there is 5,000 metric tons of gold stored there. Conspiracy theorists at the more wacky end of the spectrum claim that the vaults are empty.
What amuses me about this is that even if there is no gold there, as long as everyone *believes* that there is what difference does it make? Mind over matter.
