Alright Buck what's the cultural context, other than the artificial one the Movement and M himself created? The stories of M when alive were always mixed - even those who think well of him like Deepak Chopra talk sometimes about his temper tantrums, his petulance, his superstitious behavior but they dismissed these obvious signs of lack of full enlightenment as some sort of inconsequential things or a role playing deal he did for the benefit of his followers.
One has also to look at the effects he had in the world and on people. Not a single one of his STATED goals were ever reached. Lets not forget that for years he taught the goal of TM was enlightenment, Buck, enlightenment, not world peace, not flying, not changing your home's orientation on the land but enlightenment. For all the people in Fairfield and elsewhere who claim to be in CC or beyond and are seeing angels and devas, no one can be said to be enlightened. During his lifetime only Robin C and Andy Rhymer were said by M to be enlightened, which shows that whatever you may think of M's enlightenment, it must have been asleep when he claimed these two were in the same place. Here are some of the definitions of enlightenment Marshy himself put forth in the Gita commentary. “...produces life-supporting effects for the doer and for the entire creation...is possible only when man’s mind is in complete harmony with the transcendent Being...This is the case in CC...right action is automatically carried out.” (p.276) “In such a state a man’s every thought, word and action produce a life-supporting influence for himself and for the whole universe. This is a state of life where no wrong action is possible.” (p.308-309) “All actions are given over naturally to the divine Being and all attachments are abandoned naturally when, through the practice of TM, the mind rises to the level of divine consciousness and maintains it permanently. When the self has completely separated itself from activity, then a situation is created in which the authorship of action becomes automatically transferred to the universal Being. Untouched by sin means free from any wrong; a life that is completely harmless, being in accordance with the laws of nature. This state is gained in CC...It is in this state that actions are motivated by the power of Nature responsible for all creation an evolution. That is why they all produce life-supporting effects and no wrong is possible.” (p.344-345) “...who is established in the absolute purity of Being, completely separate from the field of activity. His actions being completely in accordance with the laws of nature, they are free from blemish.” (p.438) “...the state of a realized man is the result of many years of inner development founded on right values in life. This causes his life to flow naturally in right channels of conduct. Although his Being is above the realms of right and wrong, his actions are quite naturally right actions.. (p.218-219) Show me one person who fits any of this in its entirety. Not one person enlightened in 60 years of TM and TMSP. In addition, M always said not only does an enlightened man perform right action, he gets support from all the laws of Nature - not only were there never any enlightened people produced from TM , not a single one of M's avowed goals were ever met. World peace being the largest goal, but none of his smaller goals such as establishment of proper sized groups to CREATE world peace, the build projects and so forth. None of them were ever successfully done - a project would be announced funds solicited, a year or tow or three later another project would be announced, no mention made of the previous project, nor any mention of what happened to the funds taken in for the previous project. One can also look at the effects of M's efforts - there are satisfied customers to be sure but you have to balance that with the number of those who quit TM (I Mean if its a spiffy as advertised, how could we???) the number of those who attempted suicide, the number of those who successfully committed suicide including a number of those on Purusha, those who have become functionally dysfunctional who can't hold a job or function well in regular society - many of them are on staff at various Movement facilities. These are the grey tones you refer to Bucky. So rather than seeing M's effects in the world as the actions of an enlightened man who always performed right action and received support from all the laws of nature, you come up with a very mixed bag. A bag that has some positive effects in some people's individual lives and some very negative effects in others individual lives and NO discernible effects in society at large except for organizations the TMO and Lynch Foundation which serve mainly to raise money for themselves. That's the cultural context of Marshy's life and legacy. You tend to the safety of the souls of your sheep and let me tend to mine. -------------------------------------------- On Sat, 1/25/14, dhamiltony...@yahoo.com <dhamiltony...@yahoo.com> wrote: Subject: Re: [FairfieldLife] We warmly invite you to join us for a weekend To: FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com Date: Saturday, January 25, 2014, 4:39 AM Anartaxius; Lack of stability, not necessarily. You are making that up and projecting it. As a meditating Iowa livestock man I got my spiritual feet on the ground in life proly more than most meditators around here. Context is everything when people quote like MJ is trying to do on Maharishi. Think what you like but Maharishi was an extremely important guru to the world in the 20th and now 21st Centuries. MJ just spouting something without cultural context like he perpetrates is being spiritually vile. Frankly I am concerned about MJ's eternal soul. MJ is way too black and white without any attempt at showing understanding (empathy) of the grey tones. His attack on Maharishi for some quote pulled out of the air shows a lack of perspective.. that seems willful and aggressive to some bitter end. MJ's comments deserves to be deleted to protect virtue and MJ from further sin. So, I have taken them out again below.-Buck ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, <anartaxius@...> wrote: If Michael J has pointed out things M really said, this does not reflect on you Buck as a love of truth. Maharishi did really seem to have a totalitarian mindset, a top down, there is a king, under whom there are subjects, subject to the will of the king. If M praised Hitler and you would desire that it be lied about, either a lie of commission or a lie omission, why should I or anyone follow your advice? Gurus have warts. If what they have to teach has value, it is not because of their personal quirks, it is because what they teach has a value beyond individual concerns. You take what is of value, but if you push away an individual's dark side as if it did not exist, that is not realistic, that is self deception. Hitler's influence on the world was not very life supporting in the end. But there are those pearly teeth on the dead dog in the gutter. He was not a great artist, but he was a better artist than Winston Churchill, or Dwight Eisenhower, who also painted, as well as engineering Hitler's defeat. Maharishi seems to have appreciated his organising power, his penchant for order and systems, his top down style of management, which resembles more the Joseph Stalin school of management rather than say, Thomas Jefferson's preferences for individual freedom. In the interest of reality, I restored MJ's comments below (and by the way, taking offense shows a lack of stability, it means that others could use that characteristic to control your behaviour by pushing your buttons): ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, <Buck> wrote: Om Dear MJ, that is an appalling blaspheme that you may burn in hell for.
