Latin America is the most dangerous region in the world, and the situation is
getting worse, a lot worse. According to a recent World Bank study, over the
past two decades nearly every region in the world has grown safer or at least
stayed the same, except, that is, Latin America. [1] Latin America holds eight
percent of the world’s population but suffers 40 percent of the world’s
homicides and 60 percent of the kidnappings. [2] The murder rate in Latin
America is 26 per 100,000. In Europe it is nine. [3]
