Suffice it to say that just as Leadbeater, Besant, and thousands of Theosophists around the world were expecting Krishnamurti to begin publicly fulfilling his role, thus allowing the Coming of Maitreya/Christ to occur, the boy, now grown into an intelligent and capable young man, shocked them all in 1929 by delivering a speech in which he abdicated the position, assuring his listeners that he was not the vessel for “Christ-Maitreya” and that in fact there was no Christ-Maitreya after all, and subsequently separated himself from the Theosophists.
