We pinged our hosted server again today to test the connection using the admin console provided by our hosting service. Our download speed was 15.28 Mbps using Mozilla Firefox and 16.86 using Google Chrome.

Nerd report: We just pinged our hosted server and then uploaded a file using FTP. The FTP program is called Cute FTP, a program written by some nerds here in San Antonio. We used to use the free WS_FTP from Ipswitch. We are using ethernet for local data transfer to the home server and the NAS. That's where most of our data is warehoused - OR on the cloud, at a data center up in Washington State. So, Rita wants to go for the 50 Mbps, available with Grande Communications, using our Netgear gigabyte ethernet and wirelss N. Go figure.

Now Re/code reports: "a recent server glitch made the problem worse, rendering moot one of Apple’s key methods for trying to remedy the issue."
