Among the arguments against astrology is the proper motion of stars. Stars are
freely 'floating' in space. They are not fixed, they have velocities relative
to other starts. Over time their positions in the sky change. Here is a sample
of a familiar star grouping 'The Big Dipper' part of the constellation of Ursa
Major, showing how the positions of stars change over time. The question that
interests me is, if you were placed on a planet somewhere else and all the
stars in the sky, and planets (if any) were completely different, how would
you construct an astrology system, and how would you know it worked? The
attached image shows the constellation Scorpius (which astrologers call
Scorpio) as it appears from Greenwich Observatory in England and how it appears
from the neighbourhood of the star Rigel (which is in the constellation of
Orion). Images like this show how parochial astrology really is in terms of
systems that try to explain how the cosmos works.
