I took this picture today, of Mount Lassen (10,462 ft.), from about 50 miles away. Then I found out I can actually drive to the trail head, at 8,500 feet, in an hour and a half from here. After that, a 2,000 foot vertical climb to the summit. Due to restoration work, the trail to the summit is only open a few times this year, including tomorrow(!). The hike takes 3 to 5 hours, round-trip, and the weather forecast is for 70 degrees at 7 AM, with no wind. Pretty fucking awesome. I'll take more pictures, and post them when I get back.
**It last erupted in 1915, and is considered "safe". Same chain as Mt. St Helens, The Cascades.
