Even five minutes of loving can make an hour of no love disappear into the

 What a beautiful thought!

And I believe it to be true. The current moment is what is paramount in one's
awareness, even in spite of whatever may have come before. And love and
gentleness are so powerful that they do - they must - overwhelm the memory of
what came before it. Animals are amazingly resilient at times, just like
people, when it comes to allowing love to transform them. And even though, over
time, you can transform the big picture in terms of an animal's experience if
it has been a hard life, it is still the little moments that can add up too. In
this case, Steve's efforts to bring some pleasure to his neighbor's dogs can
keep those animal's trusting humans and even life itself; trusting that they
and it is not all negligence and need.
