and many would argue it's a much more civilized way to process the natural aggressiveness we have as humans

Today, a much glitzier product is put on the filed for our entertainment in stadiums that never could have been imagined a hundred years ago,and on television and it costs money! The entertained have to pay for that product, as simple or complex, as it might be. If you don't want a billion dollar stadium in your community, don't vote for it or the people that approve them. If you're in the minority, then move where you'll be in the majority. It's easy to think of the sports industry as a bunch of over paid jocks but that is very simplistic. It's not just a matter of peanut vendors vs athletes. There is an entire industry creating millions of jobs( at all levels) and products which are all taxed for the *common good*. Professional sports also gives people a way of taking their minds off of the grind of every day life, for a few hours. It's kind of funny, in certain markets we often hear that crime rates drop during big games! Talk about your Maharishi effect! I think professional sports is very healthy for society, psychologically and economically. The NFL and other sports Mafia associations have become ruined by the obscene money thrown around and their incredible self importance. They really do not add to the community that they extort exorbitant money from folks who are not loyal to nor invested in. Especially since communities are getting stuck with these multi-billion dollar stadia to serve the franchises who may abandoned said communities in a moment's notice. All the award shows, etc., are purely PR junkets to amass good press while fleecing their fans. Team fans are nothing more brand loyalty gone amuck. The Super Bowl is just part of the machine that the 1% have created along with other venues like inflating concert and movie tickets, amusement parks, cable, cell phone and ISP bills to funnel ever increasing percentages of income from the other 99%. Meanwhile livable wages, college, retirement, infrastructure and domestic means of production go down the shitter.
