It appears that the scientist just wants to see her name published on the internet. Or, she wants to get promoted by her employer. The search for alien life is a headline I'll always click on. I can't think of many questions I'd rather know the answer to. That's another question. We won't know if it's evolved enough to be communicated with just from looking at the atmospheric traces they'll be able to see. And the speed of light rules out a quick chat even if we take the chance and beam them a Hello. But just knowing that there is any sort of complex life out there will be the most amazing discovery.
