Just do what I inadvertently did on my first few residence courses - enjoy the meditations, enjoy the rest, enjoy the food and company and sleep like hell through all the "knowledge" tapes. I started off by trying to understand what Marshy was going on about on the tapes but got frustrated quickly and complained to the course leaders that he wasn't making a whole bunch of sense a bit too often to be reassuring. They told me to relax and let it all sink in at a deep level. So I too took to sleeping through it all and it made the courses much more enjoyable, and I managed to pick up the gist rather than becoming a fully fledged vedic expert. And then I decided to learn a bit more about it and did a proper "knowledge" course and didn't get on with it at all. Total Knowledge, it was called. The first course on the Maharishi Open University. I got half way through and quit. Just visiting some pals. I haven't done a TM course for many decades, I just don't like the "knowledge" meetings, everything else is great, the food the company. When the peace palace is built next year it will be a thriving little community I think. You might be able to get a job there MJ ;-) Did you get up out of your chair when the raja entered the room, to show the proper respect? I wouldn't ever be in a position where someone dressed like that was expecting me to stand when they enter the room. The whole "raja" thing was the final final final last straw for me. And did the people there know they had what Buck would call a TM apostate in their midst? I was discussing the phenomenon of true believerism with my friends and they were saying there is a mix there of the most devout and people who have gotten over it to various degrees. To stay so single-pointed for so long takes some energy. Most people have a flush of absolute TM-ishness and then it wears off it seems. But generally I don't talk about what I think unless asked and nor does anyone else really so I don't really know what people are into there but as the house prices are so high there you can bet there's a lot of the real movement die-hards. Nice place though and it's in a nice part of the country if you ever want to visit. Nice seaside towns and tea rooms. I really like the houses, they have a sense of lightness in them due to the windows in every direction and a nice big hall when you walk in that gives you a sense of space you don't get in the average semi. The grid pattern takes some getting used to, my first thought is that the crime rates in SV developments are bound to be low because having all the windows line up like that makes you feel like you are being watched. I like the east facing front door though, it's a very pagan idea designed to let you know when the solstice has arrived so you can get your crops planted. And, standing in the front door, you can watch the sun rise behind the gate posts on the equinoxes. How cool is that? But is there anything magical about them? You'll have to go and see for yourself whether you get any sort of buzz out of the place. I think it depends on sensitivity to environment or maybe how well the TM mythos sunk in when you were exposed to it full time. I did get a really nice enlightenment experience when I was there but what to blame it on? The placement of planets compared to the position of rooms? I doubt it as the majority of that slide show is of the order of things that mean - if they are true- everything else we know has to be wrong. And that's an awful lot of physics and biology that has to go in the bin to account for me having a trippy time when on holiday in a nice part of the country! I think you should treat yourself to a weekend course and tell us what you think. http://uk.tm.org/web/suffolk/retreats http://uk.tm.org/web/suffolk/retreats http://uk.tm.org/web/suffolk/retreats http://uk.tm.org/web/suffolk/retreats http://uk.tm.org/web/suffolk/retreats Course Bookings REGISTRATION Click on this link for MORE INFORMATION SUGGESTED ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TIME: Residential course... It's odd how the TMO constantly veers between - on the one hand - scientific investigation of TM's effects, stress-release physiology, and natural healing for our psychology and - on the other hand - this occult stuff (like the sidhis) that must alienate the vast majority of those showing an interest in meditation. Unfortunately, my current place has an inauspicious south-facing entrance. That spells destructive influences, problems and suffering. They called that right! Aren't cities in the US based on the grid pattern? It's here in Europe that they are laid out higgledy-piggledy. Found this article singing the praises of disorder in city planning - "Long may chaos reign in our streets". http://tinyurl.com/lcwr7pz http://tinyurl.com/lcwr7pz
