The concepts of "carb type" and "protein type" are based on metabolism which *can* be measured by modern medicine techniques principally CO2 consumption which can even be measured using an inexpensive oximeter and the measurement is also part of a standard medical blood panel. This is part of "cutting edge" western medicine though the research on this goes back 50-60 years. It validates the concepts of doshas as well as yin and yang. It's not a placebo effect. But conventional medicine has been reluctant to embrace it because it is a "lifestyle change" which practitioners find have difficulty getting patients to make.

Recently I posted a study which validated that just eating less and exercising more won't work for some people because they have "thrifty metabolisms." When they eat less they will lack the energy to exercise more.

The advice given in the article suggests that a low carb diet is the way to go. But that's for protein types. It will make a carbohydrate type site around morose and NOT lose weight.

We tend to eat for our minds anyway. Often someone quits a diet a doctor has put them on they will tell you "I couldn't get my work done on that diet!"

The problem with Ayurveda and Chinese medicine is it does not seem to cure a whole lot, and much of those medical systems is based on unprovable metaphysical concepts. These systems do have an effect because ineffective medicine does have a proven biological mechanism via the placebo effect.

Just as one shoe size does not fit all neither will one diet. Some folks are "carb types" and some are "protein types." And some are a mix of both. Both Ayurveda and Chinese medicine have recognized this for centuries. Western medicine? They're still stuck in the boonies trying to get back home.
