BS 1.1.12 goes like this  

  aanandamayo 'bhyaasaat (without sandhi: aanandamayaH; abhyaasaat) 

  Some of the meanings of the word abhyaasa according to CDSL: 
 

  abhyAsa 2 m. the act of adding anything , S3ulb. ; (in Gr.) `" what is 
prefixed "' , the first syllable of a reduplicated radical Pa1n2. ; 
reduplication Nir. ; repetition Mn. xii , 74 , &c. [...] (in later Veda1nta 
phil.) inculcation of a truth conveyed in sacred writings by means of repeating 
the same word or the same passage ; (in Yoga phil.) the effort of the mind to 
remain in its unmodified condition of purity (sattva).

 abhyaasa-vairaagyaabhyaaM tannirodhaH .. 12.

 

 Some translations:
 

 [HA]: By Practice And Detachment These Can Be Stopped.
 [IT]: Their suppression (is brought about) by persisitent practice and 
non-attachment.
 [VH]: The nirodha-ending of those (vrrti) occurs by abhyasa-practice and 
vairagya- non-attatchment.
 [BM]: Cessation of the turnings of thought comes through practice and 
dispassion.
 [SS]: These mental modifications are restrained by practice and non-attachment.
 [SP]: They are controlled by means of practice and nonattachment.
 [SV]: Their control is by practice and non – attachment.
 


 Maharishi translates abhyaasa also in BS to practice as it
 is translated above. My impression is that most translators
 of BS translate it as repetition (in shruti, etc?), as a proof, that
 brahma(n) consists (-maya) of bliss...
