Re "How about The Who's *Won't Get Fooled Again* ": One of the best.
When I listened to the song when it was first released I took it for a pro-revolutionary, counter-culture piece of agitprop. We'll be fighting in the streets With our children at our feet And the morals that they worship will be gone And the men who spurred us on Sit in judgement of all wrong They decide and the shotgun sings the song Was that just my mistake? I see now that at that time Pete Townshend was suspicious of the current student protest and distrusted political action. He was also completely under the influence of spiritual godman (conman?) Meher Baba and he intended the song as a call to turn to spirituality and meditation as an alternative to violent political activism. The energy of the song rather works against his intentions I reckon! I took The Who's song as being like their version of "Street Fighting Man" by The Rolling Stones. Can't think of a right-wing pop song off the top of my head.) But I'd rate John Lennon's output as the best. Definitely the catchiest! Maybe the song Imagine (1971) . . . or Revolution (1968) . . . or Give Peace a Chance (1969).
