Emily,

According to Roger Penrose, a more famous scientist, claims that the universe
can explode several times over a very long period of time. He claims that,
when the universe expands over a long period of time, it "forgets" its history
due to its loss of counting time. Thus, the universe explodes again to start a
new Big Bang.

This idea is different from the Brazilian scientist, who thinks that the
universe explodes, expands and contracts. Then, the cycle starts all over
again.

So, to answer your question, IMO scientists will never find out the real
story, since each scientists have their own pet theory which is unique from
what others have thought about.

It's like asking how many angels can fit on a head of a pin?
