The term "basis" in Shankara's poem (Cf. Stanza 6, where he says that the Absolute is the "basis" of the universe. This is more llike a container but does not mean chains of causation. Natural Laws are an extension of symmetry laws (Cf. Emmy Noether and the Source of Natural Laws):
