The nostratic hypothesis assumes a common ancestor for (most?) of world's languages.
One word of interest for nostra-freaks is the word meaning H2O, for instance in English, water. Finnish, my native language, seems have preserved the reconstructed Nostratic, perhaps over 10 thousand years old form vete in e.g. the essive case form vete-nä: Sade tulee vetenä (Rain comes down as water; couldn't come up with a more elegant example...). https://youtu.be/wgM65_E387Q?t=2503 https://youtu.be/wgM65_E387Q?t=2503
