The Russians and Indians drink the strongest variety of Alcohol. Indians follow the British idea that they have to be drunk to have fun and they think it gives them licence to indulge in outrageous behaviour.
Thousands of wife-beating cases in india happen only when the guy is drunk. it's strange that in india, being drunk and wife-beating go hand in hand.!

Gee, I wonder what she thinks about Negroes or Jews or Mexicans?? Also, I'd like to observe the "social anthropologist Kate Fox" after *she's* had a few drinks...

You know that I'm *not* one of those "the British are
scorpions because MMY sez they are types," right? That said, IMO she's onto something in her statement.

Although alcohol probably affects most people from most countries and races similarly (barring genetic issues as with Native Americans), the tendency to *rely* on alcohol and/or overuse it varies *drastically* from culture to culture and country to country. As anyone from Europe could tell you just by watching the behavior of people in their native countries and how they act as tourists when visiting other countries, the British (and the Irish) have this thing about feeling that they have to be sloppy drunk before they are having fun.
In London on a Saturday night, it is not unusual to
see dozens of young men and women in pubs "getting
ready" for the evening by having eight or ten pints
of beer. Real beer, with double the alcohol content
of American beer. And these young Brits just don't
feel "comfortable" with themselves until after eight
or ten of these beers; *at that point* they consider
themselves ready to "have some fun." It's just the
weirdest thing in the world to witness; I've never
seen anything quite like it. You really don't find
such behavior and such chemical dependency in the
youth of France or other Euro countries. They may
drink, and occasionally drink a *lot*, but the link
between being sloppy, out-of-control drunk and
"having fun" is not there.
The only other place I've lived where that social
assumption -- that you pretty much *have* to be drunk
to have fun -- was as widespread as it is in Britain
is in parts of the U.S.
In other words, I don't think her statement is as
off as you seemed to. There *IS* something "off"
and just plain disturbing about the relationship
that the British have with alcohol and their need
for it.
