What I mean is that a person who is enlightened or unencumbered by stories about what they are doing sees things as they really are; acts simply, whereas someone who is ignorant about their true nature, doesn't. If I understand you correctly, you seem to be asking, why do we act ignorantly? A lack of Self knowledge.
