My only source is my memory of what MMY himself said on a
tape...something to the effect that when he met Guru Dev that he
told him to finish his studies first and then to join him. I assume
that meant for him to finish his studies in Physics at university
which he was then attending. I also assume that that meant that he,
MMY, did indeed finish his studies which, I assume, meant he
finished his four-year program and graduated with a BA or BSc.
