Tell me about it.  I did time in Hartford once.

No, these guys (they were all guys) were doing this
as part of their L.A. café act.  I was there to see an
interesting teacher, and there was this coffeeshop/
café not far away, right on San Vicente, in Brent-
wood.  And I *live* for cool cafés where you can
sit and watch people, so I spent a lot of time 
there, writing.  And what I noticed was that, for 
whatever reason, the clientele there tended to do
this two-phone thing.  They'd just sit there, 
sipping a coffee, talking or pretending to talk
to two different people at once on their mobiles,
looking cool.  I guess.  It didn't do much for me.  :-)
