Two separate federal lawsuits have now been filed in U.S.
District Court in Des Moines against M.U.M. claiming the school
doesn't adequately protect its students. The estate of Levi Butler
filed one of the lawsuits, and Killian's family filed the other.
The lawsuits allege M.U.M. was negligent for failing to
recognize the threat Sem posed to other students, reporting the
initial attack to authorities and keeping Sem away from other students
after he attacked Killian.
