To be honest, 'aa' is a rather "interesting"
prefix/infix in Sanskrit. Sez Macdonell:

â (= aa), verbal prefix: reverses the meaning
of verbs of giving and going

Mullabs example: /gam/ 'to go' -- /aa-gam/ 'to come'

Now we are ready to ponder on the difference in meaning
between some Sanskrit words that differ from
each other in that "aa -respect":

nanda joy (caused by outward stimuli?)
aa-nanda joy, bliss (that comes from inside?)
("a-nanda" in singular is not a noun at all, it seems to
be an adjective meaning 'joyless')

saMdhi (sam + dhi; pronounce: sandhi) putting together, junction,
connection; union or intercourse with (instr.); compact, agreement,
alliance, peace between (gen.), with (instr. {ñsaha}); joint,
commissure, suture, fold; anything that joins or lies between, as
dawn, dusk, twilight (between day and night), wall (between two
rooms), also interval, pause, opening, hole, breach, gap; euphonic
combination of words and sentences (g.).

samaadhi [sam + aa + dhi] m. putting together, conjunction, union, a
whole; performation, accomplishment, arrangement, reconcilement;
attention, meditation, devotion.

(There seems not to be a word "samadhi" with a shot 'i' at
the end. The _verb_ "samadhii" (sam + adhi + ii) means
to go over , repeat or read through or study thoroughly )
